 The UTDA for Buyers Minimize

We believe consumers in the market for a used tractor could use a little peace of mind when spending their hard earned money.  The heart of the UTDA commitment to safety and consistency is the Certification Program.  UTDA members are committed to raising the bar for safety and consistency in marketing grey market tractors.  The UTDA Board has chosen Yanmar manufactured grey market tractors for their certification program at this time because of their prevalence in the marketplace and the overwhelming advantage they have over others in available afermarket parts.  Read on for details on what the Certification Program ensures on a tractor.

 UTDA Certification Program Minimize

"Any unit for which UTDA has adopted standards must be compliant to those standards and have affixed to it a UTDA certification decal before it is sold."

The statement above comes directly from the UTDA Membership Agreement that all dealers accept when joining UTDA.  If a tractor does not have our Certfication Decal it is not UTDA certified.  If you have any doubt, first check our Member List.  If the seller is not a UTDA Member, and the tractor appears to be UTDA Certified, you may want to take advantage of one aspect of our no-cost Certification Inspections.  All Sales and Service Dealers will perform UTDA Certification Inspections at no charge for customers who bring in a tractor bearing a UTDA Certification Decal.  The Dealer may require an appointment to perform this service.  This way you can determine

  • Whether or not the certification decal is legitimate
  • Whether or not the tractor still meets current certification standards
  • The cost to bring the tractor up to certification standards if it does not meet current standards

 Service/Parts Minimize

Service/Parts Agreement

All Sales and Service Dealers agree to provide parts and service, to the best of their capability, for any UTDA certified tractor brought to them that was last sold by a UTDA member.  The Sales and Service Dealer may contact UTDA to confirm the certification, and the customer must provide documentation of the purchase from a UTDA dealer.  Once confirmed, the Sales and Service Dealers will provide parts and service support, at their usual rates, for that tractor.  This program, simple in concept, brings the first guarantee of service provision that we aer aware of for any grey market tractors. And provides additional incentive to buy UTDA certified tractors.

As with any service provided on a UTDA certified tractor, a certification inspection will be done at no cost to the customer.  If the tractor does not meet current certification standards, the Dealer will provide the customer with an estimate to bring the tractor into compliance.  Service may be done even if the customer does not agree to have the tractor made compliant with current standards.

All Sales and Service Dealers also agree to provide parts and service, to the best of their capability, for any UTDA certified tractor brought to them regardless of the last seller so long as the current owner agrees to have the tractor made compliant with current UTDA certification during the course of any service.

Certification Inspection

All Sales and Service Dealers will perform UTDA Certification Inspections at no charge for customers who bring in a tractor bearing a UTDA Certification Decal.  The purpose of the inspection is to either confirm for the customer that the tractor still meets certification specifications, or to detail for the customer why the tractor fails to meet current certification standards.  The Dealer shall complete an Inspection Report, keep the original, provide the customer with one copy, and send another copy to UTDA.  The Dealer may require an appointment to perform this service.

If the tractor does not meet current certification standards, the Dealer shall provide the customer with an estimate to bring the tractor into compliance.  In such cases the Dealer shall document on the Inspection Report whether or not the customer agreed to the work needed to bring the tractor into compliance.
